Art 1012 - Form, Space and Color

Students learn art and design terminology and vocabulary related to form, space, color and photography in written and oral communication. Students learn demonstrate their ability to apply color theories and models across media in art and design projects; apply principles of visual organization utilizing a variety of visual art media and tools, ranging from digital photography to Photoshop. Students critically evaluate work through the lens of art and design, formulate a unique artistic perspective, and apply their perspective to photography projects.

I’ve Never Heard of this Band

Students created a poster for a made-up band of their choice. Students utilized their photography skills such as taking and scanning photographs, using editing software such as Photoshop to edit photographs and plan their poster, and using an exacto knife to cut photographs to paste onto a 11x14in poster. This final project is assigned for students to use and display the elements of photography as well as form, space and color they have learned throughout the semester to create a unique poster.

Mise-en-scène

Students come up with an idea for a film (one that does not already exist) and write a synopsis. They then create a photograph depicting a scene from that movie. Students study mise-en-scène and how filmmakers and photographers construct a scene. Students learn how to communicate their determined conceptual framework and how to convey their ideas through photography by paying attention to detail, lighting, camera angles, color and objects.
